During the summer of 2020 we prepared the site ready for planting in spring 2021. First job, marking out the edges....

Over the winter, we prepared the ground.

Planting day
An early start and luckily fine weather! With the help of Will and the Vineworks team just over 4000 vines went into the ground.

Rabbit guards on
Another busy few days staking each vine and placing protective guards on so the local rabbits didn't enjoy a tasty treat!

Deer fencing
Plenty of deer around too so some high fencing was also required.

Trellising
No time to sit back, trellising was a big task and took us a week but very satisfying by the time we'd finished.

Snow in the vineyard
A calm and peaceful sight with snow covered vines. They are dormant during the winter months so the snow, frost and cold weather isn't a problem...but a late frost after budburst in spring is a real worry!
June 2022
First signs of growth
As we moved into the second year the vines really started to show their growth potential. No grapes this year, it's all about establishing the roots & trunks but they are certainly vigorous growers!

Grapes!
This is what we've been waiting for! Lovely bunches of grapes, a beautiful colour and full of juice, although a very modest crop that we harvested purely for the experience, it was great to see grapes and so many!

All done!
OK, so it's not a lot, but it was a day of learning and we gained a lot of knowledge! Roll on 2024 when we can harvest our first decent crop and make some lovely wine!

Preparation
The vines were pruned, secured and tied down, all ready for the growing season ahead.

Grass strimmed and the first set of foliage wires in place.

Nearly there
Grapes galore! Harvest on the horizon.

Harvest time
Despite the wet weather over the growing season, the grapes looked good!
Two long days and 2.5 tonnes of grapes later, the 2024 harvest entered the winery.

Dormancy
